Vinos de La Ribera del Duero - Wines from home

Back in 1920 our great grandfather planted and cultivated vines in the estate of Valdecuriel in the Ribera del Duero region.

It has been a family tradition to elaborate wine. At first the wine was produced with a handmade press and stored in a family cellar which was dug out in 1780. With great effort my grandfather´s dream finally became true, Gervasio Granado´s enthusiasm and determination gave birth to a new winery.

The combination of traditional methods and polished techniques has allowed us to constantly increase the quality of our D.O. Ribera del Duero wines.

When we moved to Bristol, where we relocated in 2010, we missed the Ribera del Duero wine. We missed it so much that we decided to create REDRibera to import these treasures and share them with you.

The Duero valley was formed during the Miocene period.

Geologically the valley is made up of enticular layers of silty sand which alternate with layers of limestone, marl and chalky concretions. The terrain is flat, rocky and gently undulating.

The climate in the area is continental and Mediterranean. The moderate rainfall and extreme climatic conditions with long dry summers followed by hard winters are the most favorable conditions for the ripening of the Tempranillo grape variety.

Tempranillo is an old world grape variety which is used to elaborate the new world´s leading wines.

Also known as Tinto fino it is a variety of black grape grown to make full-bodied red wines in its native Spain. Tempranillo is the diminutive of the Spanish word temprano ("early"), this is a reference to the fact that it ripens several weeks earlier than most Spanish red grapes.

The Tempranillo grape is a deep coloured variety which offers tasting notes ranging from strawberries, blackcurrants and cherries to prunes, chocolate and tobacco.

REDRibera has chosen to import exclusively wines produced by family owned wineries.

After the manual selection and harvest the wine ages in French and American oak casks where the wine ages and gains it´s subtle flavours and aromas.

  • Roble: Wines which have been kept in wooden casks, from 4 to 6 months.
  • Crianza:Wines which have spent at least 12 months in oak casks “barricas”.
  • Reserva: Wines which have been ageing for 36 months between casks and bottle.

Wines produced in accordance with the Regulations of the Ribera del Duero Designation of Origin undergo specific testing and meet the required D.O Ribera del Duero standards.
